Lost among the wins…
Buried in the Blazers six-game winning streak is the bizarre behavior of Greg Oden. Take a listen to Jason Quick on Wednesday’s show:
Where’s the fun-loving kid we got to know during and after the draft? Are there depression issues? Will this guy ever have fun playing basketball? Quite honestly, I’m not sure what to make of this but I have to wonder if given the opportunity Oden would just push the money back across the table and walk away.

I think you have to wait until next year. If Oden gets through the rest of this season injury free, the next big thing should come along and the media will leave him alone. Once he is out of the fishbowl I’m sure that “fun loving” Greg will be back again

It’s pretty obvious to me (having been there when I lived in the Willamette valley) that Greg is suffering from depression. Does this team have the resources to deal with this (it’s pretty simple in most cases), or does the “Man up” attitude of professional sports prevent acknowledging it? Championships could hang in the balance here, folks…Which is not nearly as important as someone needing help.

Keep in mind the guy lost his best friend in an accident not long ago.

After listening to this, I wouldn’t want to talk to you two either if I were Greg. He DOES have high “QUOTE ON QUOTE” expectations, and he knows he’s not meeting them. Uggh.. Disgusting piece of non-jornalism. Better hope you guys don’t get frozen out of the locker room.
And Chris is right too.

Agree entirely with Jim. I don’t think the NW weather has much to do with this, and I just hope that his advisors are getting him the help he needs before the problem becomes chronic.

Well let’s just say this. Jason Quick will not win any political contests in the near future. He isn’t very savvy in that arena. However saying that I’m reminded that Oden’s job isn’t to make Quick’s job easier, and he’s feeling the heat being a #1 pick that isn’t having an easy time of it. Think of how many times Oden has had to struggle in basketball. In highschool? NO.His team won all the time. In college? NO.HIs team went to the finals in his first year. this is the first time he hasn’t dominated easily, his ego is having difficulty in accepting that fact. Quick thinks like this kid should act like he always has acted only NOW things aren’t so easy for Oden and he’s not handling it so well. Quick should have watched his words, but again he’s a reporter not a politician

handling depression
Nevertheless there will always be a minority who will not get the point you are trying to make.
