It's finally here, on the eve of World Cup 2010, I can't wait for this thing to finally kick off. Are you like me, and setting the alarm for 6am in desperate search of a local watering hole that's open for some footy and froth? I am breaking out my Jurgen Klinnsman autographed German flag, but you won't see a Vuzuzoo anywhere near me. Day 1 starts tomorrow with the host nation as tradition calls for at 7am as South Africa takes on Mexico then at 11:30am Uruguay battles France. While the Frenchies are not the potent group that finished 2nd in 2006 to Italy, I am not sure there is too much competition in this group to keep them out of the knockout round. But, here is hoping Mexico and Uruguay can provide some excitement.
Don't forget to join me at the Mt. View Sports Bar at Spirit Mountain Casino, Saturday morning at 11am for USA v. England. The American's dream begins here and if they can get even 1 point out of the match it will clear the way for them to advance out of group play and try and recreate their 2002 World Cup run to the quarterfinals. If you want to keep up on the very latest make sure and follow Allen Hopkins blog, and listen for him on The FAN perodically throughout the World Cup for his reports on team USA and the entire atmosphere of World Cup 2010.
