Conor Oliver just won on July 4th the Oregon Junior Amateur in for the Intermediate Boys...two years ago he won the PeeWee Division, less than two months later he was diagnosed with leukemia, the best guess is that the cancer was probably in his blood when he won. He has been in treatment since Aug 2006 and will remain in chemo until his "done" date of Dec 9, 2009. His goal has been to return to the State Match Play tournament, the most prestigious junior golf tournament in Oregon. Last year he was too ill to participate. This year we decided almost at the last minute for him to attend, because he wanted to be there so bad. It was at Bandon Dunes. He went and competed in a grueling five day tournament and won his age division. This is not an athlete who has recovered from cancer and accomplishes something but a boy who is in current treatment to fight the disease.
