A Weekend full of sports legends...
Not sure if you fully appreciated what you had the chance to witness over the weekend in about a 12 hour span with Lance Armstrong, Roger Federer and Tiger Woods all in action on the same day Sunday. I hope their collective greatness wasn't overshadowed by the Hedo Turkoglu saga, the Manny Ramirez circus and the Steve McNair tragedy. And, I am still having a hard time figuring out if the Mariners are in a pennant race or if the Angels just stink that bad.
Game of the Day: Texas Rangers @ Anaheim Angels, 7pm- With the Mariners back from a 5-4 road trip against the Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox they are poised to pick up ground on one of these teams if they can take advantage of the Orioles at SAFECO. My guess is they are pulling the Rangers in this series. If they can grab a couple of games in the standings on Anaheim (there is only one Los Angeles team) they get four with Texas at the end of the week to make up ground on them.
Player of the Day: Andy Roddick- I don't know if you watched his finals match with Roger Federer, but I haven't pulled for a guy to win a tennis match since Jimmy Connors made his run at the US Open in his 40's. With the way he controlled Andy Murray in the semis, and his poise and shotmaking against Federer I am extremely hopeful this version of Roddick will last three or four years which along with a healthy Rafael Nadal create a new excitement in men's tennis that has been around since the days of Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Becker and Lendl.
